Dubbed 'The Graveyard of the Atlantic', the outer banks of North Carolina have been littered with over 5000 shipwrecks since records began in 1526, due to its treacherous waters.
One particularly interesting wreck is the USS Monitor; a unique ironclad warship with revolving turret also known as the 'cheesebox on a raft'. It sunk in 1862 during a storm and in more recent years, divers with NOAA have undergone a huge recovery project to bring parts of the wreck from 240ft below to the surface for conservation.
